GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for the planning, executing, and evaluation of the pre-op / recovery process and the assessment and education of patients prior to and following their surgical procedure.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

●      Plans and delivers safe, effective pre-operative and post-operative nursing care until patient is discharged from the center.

●      Interacts with patients, fellow employees, physicians, and other customers in a manner which encourages quality patient care.

●      Ensures patient’s emotional, physical, and psychological needs are met.

●      Ensures that proper techniques and practices are used according to accepted standards of practice.

●      Supervises and assists nursing assistants as necessary.

●      Ensures care of patient through proper identification, checking of chart, and reporting of changes in condition.

●      Carries out physician orders.

●      Administers prescribed medications, applies dressings, and monitors vital signs.

●      Instructs and educates patients and families.

●      Documents all nursing care delivered in the medical record.

●      Performs other nursing duties as assigned.

●      Maintains established Center policies and procedures.

●      Documents concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy.

●      Participates in Quality Assurance activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing

  • Current licensure to practice as Registered Nurse

  • Current certification as  a BLS Healthcare Provider and ACLS required. PALS preferred.

  • Minimum one (2) years experience in PACU, ED, or ICU

  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/ or equipment up to 50 lbs.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment.  Performs other duties as assigned or required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Prepares instruments and supplies through cleaning, packing, sterilizing, and storing.

        Understands principles of sterilization techniques and operates sterilization equipment.

        Assembles and sets up instrument trays for operating room.

        Assist in department cost containment efforts.

        Decontaminates the complete range of medical and surgical supplies used in the center.

        Ensures the operation of the steam cleaning equipment, washer, sterilizer, and washer/ decontaminator are in compliance with established written guidelines.

        Ensures that all equipment is disassembled, cleaned, disinfected, reassembled and tested for proper operation

        Packages items, determines the method of sterilization, applies a class 5 chemical integrator, labels the package with the proper name of the item, and loads the item in the appropriate sterilizer.

        Prepares the full range of instrument trays and sets used in all surgical cases.

        Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

        Orients and mentors new staff members.

        Participates in Quality Assurance activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent required

At least one year of sterilization and instrumentation experience preferred

Certified as Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or equivalent, preferred

Current certification as  a BLS Healthcare Provider required

Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.

Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/ or equipment up to 50 lbs.
